We have a long To - Do List, but here is what the MAG has achieved so far:

UHL DAFNE Approved

As of June 17th 2022, UHL is now officially a DAFNE approved centre.

Dietician for Adult Clinic in UHL

There were 0 dieticians for UHL, now there are currently 3 in UHL.

Increase of Endocrinologists in UHL

There are now 3 Consultant endocrinologist working in the adult clinic in UHL.

Insulin Pump Clinic for UHL

There are still challenges to accessing technology in UHL. This includes: insulin pumps, sensor's and smart pens.

DNS in UHL

Diabetic Nurse Specialists are required for UHL to be DAFNE approved. There were 4.4 Diabetes Nurses in UHL. There are now 6 Diabetes Specialist Nurses.

Access to technology in UHL

UHL can treat patients on pumps, however they are not an insulin pump clinic and patients need to access a pump from another clinic.

Midwest Diabetes is a group of people with diabetes from Limerick and Clare who have campaigned for better diabetes services in the University of Limerick Hospitals since 2019.

We organized several events in 2021 and 2022 around World Diabetes Day to highlight these issues. Stay tuned for upcoming events for 2023!
